While jogging with Sammy last week - I managed to, yes, step on a snake!!! I got so surpriced and scared that when I stepped on it, and it curled up around my shoe, I kicked my foot in the air - and kicked the snake onto Sammy....! Not really cool, but at this point I had literally no control over my foot! None of us got bitten - and the snake was probably very relieved when he was able to escape from us.
There are more than 90 snakes in Namibia, so you are bound to see snakes at some point. In the area we live, we mainly hear of the Zebra snake, the boomslang, and the puff adder - all of them venomous. So far I have only stepped on one (!), but seen a few when I've been out jogging in the area. The same goes for scorpions, I have seen several, but we have been lucky so far and not found any in our house like many others...(it probably helps that we live in an old trailer that's elevated from the ground!).
