Home sweet home
The kids and I arrived Namibia two weeks ago and we are excited to be back! The winter here has passed, and summer is on. After three days in Windhoek waiting for lost luggage, we headed back to dear Opuwo. Strange enough we have missed this town, despite the dust storms, the intense heat, the frequent power cuts and the absolutely non drinkable and often non existing water. Erik is back in school, and Gabriel is running the scene at home, with that means wandering around the garden checking out the goats, donkeys and cows that frequently wander past outside our gate. He has also discovered a tiny crack in the fence - and he tries to make a run for at several times a day to see what else is out there.
Sammy is out in the field weekly to visit the mobile schools. His visits are from 2-4 days, and includes camping near the schools. He enjoys the field visits, as they bring him closer to the work and even closer if you can, to the people NAMAS work with.
Since we have been back in Opuwo, the yard has been filled with kids every afternoon, and they are all so excited to see that Erik is back! Eriks best buddy Marco is the happiest kid on earth. Yesterday he came over, and despite the water issues in Opuwo, I couldnt help myself but let them play with the water sprinkler. I have never seen such an expression as on Marco's face when he realized that they actually could play with water! Of course we didn't drain the public water tanks, since there is severe lack of it (which means the water is turned off at 19.00 each night, and only turned back on at 06.00 in the morning). Fortunately for us, we have installed a big tank of water in our yard, which is the water we use to water our garden and sometimes allow ourself to play with. Pictures will be posted shortly!
Erik has started 1st grade at home, which means that I am homeschooling Erik in Norwegian. This is a new role for me, but I enjoy it so far! We are using a school program online called Globalskolen, which helps us a lot by sending weekly assignments to us, and by supporting us if we have any issues. Eriks first three weeks of school has been challenging and fun for him, and in addition to the local school here I hope he is ready to attend grade 2 when we return to Norway next year.
I will try to update the blog more often now that we are settled here again. So long!
