The challenges of everyday life in Opuwo
Since October 21 the electricity has gone on and off on an everyday basis, the same with the phone lines and of course the ISDN has suffered greatly as a result of this. At times the cell phone network has been down as well, and the feeling of being "way out there" has been overwhelming at times. To top the whole thing off, last Sunday a nasty Indonesian virus hit Sammys computer, and did a lot of harm. In the meantime we have worked all week with the modem in my computer, who has failed to let us connect to ISDN. However, as ususal, things do get back to normal after some time, and yesterday we FINALLY managed to get my computer online again, and things feel a bit better today! All unpaid bills and unanswered emails will now be handled, and Eriks norwegian internet school will at last get the 2 missing assigments that are way overdue by now!
In the meantime my very very helpful cousin Siri and the broker at home have been able to deal with our new house, and a Swedish company have rented it on a short term basis, until May 10. It does feel a bit strange knowing that someone else but us is living in our brand new house, but it saves us a lot of money. At least we will be able to spend this money on experiencing Africa now that we are actually living here, which was part of the purpouse of subletting the house. We still have lots to se in Namibia, South Africa and even Mozambique, so the money will go a far way!
So long, updates will hopefully follow soon without too much el or ISDN problems. Am attaching a picture of Gabriel in his Himba gear-a true village kid who loves to play in the dirt and watch the goats and donkeys walk by!
